MARTIN TRUEX, JR, NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER BOATS MONTE CARLO SS, STARTED 11TH, FININISHED - WINNER - First Ever Nextel Cup Win:
HOW DID YOU WIN THE RACE WITH A CAR THAT TIGHT?
"I thought at any time I could hit the wall or blow a right front (tire). I just kept turning the wheel and every time it would push, I'd just matt it and hope that it would turn and it was getting worse and worse and worse. In a couple more laps we were going to be in big trouble. The only chance I had was to get to the top groove and get around Carl (Edwards) because Johnny Sauter was really coming. If I didn't get around Carl, then Johnny would have gotten around both of us.
"It was an awesome race - a good job by my crew. We were kind of guessing on the set-up because we were real loose yesterday. Who knows? We're in the All-Star race, man, that's awesome! We'll see if we can get that thing fixed up and have something for them later on. Everyone on the Bass Pro Shops team has been awesome. We have had an up and down kind of year and this is what we need to turn it around. Really, really happy. It was really fun. I have 40 laps practice over these other guys tonight so we will just go out and keep doing what we just did."
