SHELL TEAM TO MISS WATKINS GLEN NASCAR BUSCH GRAND NATIONAL RACE
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Shell team will not participate in the June 28 Lysol 200 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series event at Watkins Glen International, Watkins Glen, NY due to Tony Stewart'’s contractual commitment with Menard Racing to compete in the Indy Racing League event at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Bobby Labonte, Stewart'’s teammate, will be unavailable to fill in for Stewart since he will be participating in the Save Mart/Kragen 350 for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series at Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma, CA.
"“Although we have known since the beginning of the season there would be scheduling conflicts for both Bobby and myself,"” said Stewart, "“Iam disappointed that the Shell team won'’t be at the Watkins Glen event. I am grateful to Shell Oil and Joe Gibbs Racing for allowing me the opportunity to fulfill my IRL commitment to Team Menard. I'’m looking forward to being back in the Shell Pontiac in Milwaukee."”
The next scheduled event for Stewart and the Shell Pontiac NASCAR Busch Grand National team is the Diehard 250 at the Milwaukee Mile July 5, 1998.
