KJ Runs Well in the Heat, Stays Second in Pomona

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team did much more than simply maintaining their second spot during Friday's single qualifying session at the Carquest Auto Parts Winternationals in Pomona, CA. Although the warmer temperatures at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona slowed the majority of the Pro Stock field, Johnson's ACDelco Cobalt was able to improve upon his opening effort, streaking through the quarter-mile in 6.646-seconds with a top speed of 208.36 mph, the quickest and fastest among the 22 cars making an attempt.

Heading into Saturday's final two attempts, Johnson will look to maintain his high level of performance while simultaneously getting ready for Sunday's final eliminations.

"That was a pretty smooth run, with our ACDelco Cobalt going nice and straight. Even though the air was three or four hundred feet worse, we were actually able to pick up a couple thousandths. In fact, that was the quickest run I had even made under correction, correcting to a 6.530 at 212.06.

"We're just glad that we took a brand-new car that was going down a 60 degree racetrack a couple days ago, and have adapted to run on this Pomona track that is about 40 degrees warmer.

"As for tomorrow, we'll see what the weather's like, and adapt accordingly. Certainly, we'd like a shot at the No.1 position, but our primary concern will be working on our tune-up for race day. But after two days, we're pretty happy."
