MASSEY, KINSLEY ON TOP IN CHEROKEE COUNTY
RUSK, Texas. -- Qualifying wrapped up Saturday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series East Texas State Championships at Cherokee County Motorsports Park with Spencer Massey leading the Top Alcohol Dragster field with a 5.398 second run at 263.98 mph. The Fort Worth, Texas, racer is followed by Jim Whiteley out of Grand Junction, Colo., at 5.449 seconds, 264.03 mph. Division point's leader Brandon Pierce of Moore, Okla., is third with a 5.470 second lap at 259.11 mph.
Kebin Kinsley jumped to the top of the Top Alcohol Funny Car ladder in his '02 Camaro at 5.806 seconds. Kinsley clocked in at 249.03 mph and is followed by Lee Callaway of Baytown, Texas, with a 5.896 second pass at 241.80 mph.
Steve Kent held on to the top spot in Comp Eliminator with an 8.877 second lap in his'02 Cavalier with Craig Bourgeois jumping into the second spot and Carthage, Texas, resident Chase Williams rounding out the top five in his '04 Grand Am.
Super Stock's Michael Kobleur of Lecompte, La., leads the field with an 11.192 second lap and John Duzac is No. 1 in Stock Eliminator with a 10.654 second run in his '67 Camaro. Kobleur is followed by Fred Henson in his '68 Dart and Patrick Courts of New Iberia, La., follows Duzac in the No. 2 spot.
A perfect reaction time of 0.000 seconds put Kelly Pulley on top in the Sportsman Motorcycle series presented by Harley Davidson. The Houston rider is followed by Conroe, Texas, rider Jerry Pomilla with a 0.001 second time.
Katy, Texas, racer Douglas Barnhart leads the division's Top Dragster class at 6.417 seconds, 214.37 mph with Houston's Joe Holzer in second at 6.618, 210.80. Top Sportsman runners Keith Raftery and Bret Prejean are one and two in a pair of '06 GTO's running 6.625 seconds and 6.652 seconds respectively.
Racing continues Sunday at 9 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Tickets are $20.
