Mazaspeed Miata Cup 2004 schedule announced

SCCA Pro Racing announces 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires schedule

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 7, 2004) -- SCCA Pro Racing announced the 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires Atlantic and Pacific Tours schedules today. The Atlantic Tour initially has four race weekends scheduled, while the Pacific Tour has two. Additional races will be added at a later date for both Tours.

"We are excited about the 2004 schedule and opportunity it provides the Mazdaspeed Miata Cup drivers to showcase their skills on some of the finest racing circuits in North America," said Ken Grammer, Director of Operations for SCCA Pro Racing. "With the uncertainty surrounding the future of Champ Car, it has put us in a difficult situation in terms of scheduling. We anticipate being able to announce additional dates in the near future."

The Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Atlantic Tour opens the 2004 campaign in Northern Georgia with two races at Road Atlanta the weekend of April 24-25. More details on the remainder of the race weekend will be released at a later date.

Nearly one month later, the series travels north of the border to for two races on the 10-turn, 2.459-mile circuit at Mosport International Raceway May 22-23.

The Atlantic Tour will be part of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge and Busch North Memorial Day weekend lineup at historic Lime Rock Park May 28-31. Scheduled to run two races, it will be the second-straight trip to Lime Rock Park for the Atlantic Tour.

As part of another SPEED World Challenge and American Le Mans Series race weekend, the Miata Cup Atlantic Tour will travel to the serene hills of middle Ohio to tame the 13-turn, 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course June 25-27 in Lexington.

The 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Pacific Tour schedule begins at Phoenix International Raceway in April. The specific date of the event and additional information about the event weekend will be announced at a later date.

Portland International Raceway will host the Pacific July 23-25. The Pacific Tour will be part of a weekend that will feature the SPEED World Challenge and ALMS in its return to the Pacific Northwest.
