Ziehl, Martin eye improvement at Aztec Saturday

Rick Ziehl holds an eight-point lead over Mike Martin in the Southwest Sprint Car Series standings going into this Saturday night's racing program at Aztec Speedway in Aztec, N.M.

Ziehl, of Las Cruces, and Martin, of Yuma, Ariz., finished second and third in the 2002 series standings and both had a runner-up finish at Aztec last year.

A 30-lap feature event is on tap at the 1/3-mile dirt oval where Mike Boat of Phoenix, Ariz. and Tom Ball of Albuquerque, N.M. scored victories in last year's races. Boat ended up as the 2002 series champion.

Other top competitors expected at Aztec are third-ranking Shon Deskins and fifth-ranking lady driver Kaylene Verville, both of Phoenix, Ariz., plus "top-10" point ranking drivers Ron Clark of Tucson, Ariz. and Beau Binder of El Paso, Texas.
