Lewis flies to California, wins Stockton sprint race.
Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. captured Saturday night's 40-lap "DuWayne Starr Classic" at the Stockton 99 (Calif.) Speedway, leading all 40 laps of the Western Sprint Car race in his Western Speed Racing Eagle/Wesmar.
Lewis, who also won Friday's USAC National Sprint Car race at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, emerged as the leader in the Western Sprint Car Series, 18 points ahead of Jeff Gardner going into a June 14 race at Tucson, Ariz.
Gardner finished second at Stockton, followed by Jason McCord, who also traveled from Cedar Rapids, Jim Waters and Tony Hunt. Rick Hendrix was the fastest qualifier but failed to finish the 40-lapper.
Lewis' victory gives him triumphs in three USAC racing series already in 2003. He has won in USAC National and Western Midget and National and Western Sprint Car events!
