Lindbom Honoured at CAMS Presentation Dinner

The Australian Junior Intercontinental A Karting Champion, Kristian Lindbom was honoured at the gala 50th Anniversary CAMS Presentation Dinner in Melbourne last Friday evening, along with his fellow CIK karting champions and CAMS Category Champions.

Lindbom received his award alongside Australian Formula A Champion, Barclay Holden and Australian Intercontinental A Champion, Glenn Powles.

"It was a great way to finish off what has been a fantastic year," said Lindbom. "We have worked very hard all year to achieve this goal and receiving this award at this dinner really put it all into perspective. Accepting an award in front of people such as Marcos Ambrose and Peter Brock is just unbelievable."

"When you look at the other champions who accepted awards here that are also CIK Champions, such as Michael Caruso, Mark Winterbottom and my former Top Kart team-mate, Neil McFadyen, I would be very proud if I could emulate their achievements down the track."

The 14 year old from Chiswick in New South Wales took an amazing three wins from the five rounds of the Dunlop CIK Junior Intercontinental A Championship, including an astounding undefeated streak that lasted for the entire second and third rounds of the Championship, some ten races, almost unheard of in Australian CIK Competition. He took the Championship victory by 26 points over Victorian Trulli driver, Ben McCashney.

"I guess the part about winning the Championship that amazes me the most is the fact that we weren't even going to do the Championship at the beginning of the year! It was only through the pleading of my Top Kart team boss, Tim Craig that we decided to do it. I really owe a lot of this win to Tim, also to (engine tuner) Colin Hurst, along with my Mum and Dad, without them, none of this would be possible."

Kristian's father and lead mechanic, Karl Lindbom, was awarded the Beta Tools Mechanic of the Year at the Dunlop CIK Championships Presentation Dinner.

"I would also like to thank the Series Sponsor, Dunlop, for their efforts in backing the CIK Championships and keeping it growing from strength to strength. Without sponsors like Dunlop, the Series wouldn't be anywhere near as strong as what it is."

Lindbom will once more line up for Kart One Racing/Top Kart Comer Australia in the 2004 Australian CIK Karting Championships Junior Intercontinental A Class, which begin in Victoria in late March 2004.

Kristian Lindbom would like to pay tribute to his partners for the 2003 Dunlop CIK Championship season, including:
-The Bass Player
-Kart One Racing
-Hurst Engine Tuning
-Colonial Leather
-Garry Cooper Photography
-Acclaim Media
