2003 title would be special for Brawn

Ferrari is hardly lacking in titles but technical director Ross Brawn thinks winning the 2003 championship would be special after such a close fought season. As Formula One gears up for the final two races, it won't be long before both the Driver's and Constructors' titles are decided -- maybe even as soon as this weekend at Indianapolis.

"All championships are nice to win but to win this one would bring its own rewards," Brawn told the British press. "It would be special because this has been a very tough and close-fought season. Michael's win in Monza gave us a huge boost but I am not making any predictions for the last two races. Indianapolis is a strange circuit and while people feel Suzuka will be good for us, who knows?"

Brawn's main concern is reliability. It's unusual to see a Ferrari fail to finish a race due to a reliability issue and the last time the team faced that scenario was back in Brazil when Rubens Barrichello retired while in the lead, with a fuel feed problem.

"We've been incredibly reliable and that's what I'm worried about," said Brawn. "The law of averages says we are due a failure but we will continue to do our utmost to ensure it doesn't happen. The way the points are now, one retirement could take any of the contenders out of the race."

"In 1997, '98 and '99, the championship went to the wire and we did not win anything so we know how fragile our position is -- it could all collapse."
