Willy Rampf (Technical Director):
Silverstone is quite a complex track. It has some very high-speed curves,
such as the flowing section of Becketts, Maggotts, Chapel and the Hangar
Straight down to Stowe, where there is a heavy demand on the driver to find
the perfect line in order to achieve a good lap time. This is the most
important sector of his medium to high downforce circuit, and where you
place the greatest emphasis on setting up the car.
At the same time, however, you need good traction and mechanical grip for
the slow-speed infield corners such as Luffield and Priory.
Our target for Silverstone is to keep the 4th position in the World Championship, but we are aware that we have to beat some teams in their own back ‘garden’.
Nick Heidfeld (26 GPs, 9 World Championship points):
I was really happy with the progress that we made in the race at
Magny-Cours. Since our car also went well in Barcelona, which is another
high-speed track where aerodynamics are important, I’m hopeful that we
will be able to run strongly at Silverstone because it has similar
characteristics.
Kimi Räikkönen (10 GPs, 7 World Championship points):
I don’t have any problem learning new circuits, but it will be nice to
race at Silverstone because I know it very well. I like its high-speed
corners, and I’m sure the C20 will be well suited to the track so that
we can challenge for further points.
