PRESS RELEASE FROM THE FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE L'AUTOMOBILE (FIA)

Stewards Decision Number 5:

After reviewing video tapes and studying reports of the incident on lap 1 of the Italian Grand Prix, the Stewards of the Meetings are unanimously of the opinion that your speed at the approach to the first Chicane on lap 1 was excessively high and that you caused an avoidable accident which involved several cars and resulted into the race having to be restarted.

The Stewards have decided to impose the penalty of suspension for one race but suspended for three races, in accordance with Article 152 and 153 of the FIA Sporting Code.

Mr. Eddie Irvine is reminded of his right to appeal under article 183 of the FIA Sporting Code.
