Damon produces his best qualifying of 1998.

Damon Hill gave his best qualifying performance of the 1998 season in Hungary today when he drove the Jordan Mugen-Honda to fourth place on the grid. This result builds on his previous best qualifying of '98, at the German Grand Prix two weeks ago (P5) and shows continued improvement in competitiveness for the Benson and Hedges Jordan team. Ralf Schumacher finished in 10th place, having opted for a different tyre from his team mate which may work to his advantage in tomorrow's race.

DAMON HILL CHASSIS 03 Best time 1.18.214 Best position 4th "This is a great qualifying result and keeps up the momentum of the past few races. It was a great team effort and it shows how far we have pulled ourselves up since Argentina and Monaco, which were similar circuits where we suffered on the twists and turns. I seem to have had good luck in Hungary over the years, but that does not take away from the performance of the car and the team because I cannot do it without the necessary equipment. We have been competitive all weekend and have kept this up for qualifying, so I am very happy. There is a lot to fight for tomorrow and a podium is a possibility, but it will be a tough race and you never know what might happen."

RALF SCHUMACHER CHASSIS 04 Best time 1.19.171 Best position 10th "I am somewhat disappointed, but I expected to be slower than Damon since I chose different tyres from him. He did a great job, and I would like to congratulate him; he has shown over the years that he is very good in Hungary. As far as my car goes, I still struggled with understeer, but I think that for the race we are looking quite good. I lost three and a half tenths in the last corner of my penultimate run, which probably cost me 7th place, and the last run there was just too much traffic to make a good time."

EDDIE JORDAN "This is another very good result for Jordan. Both Damon and Ralf have really found new confidence in the much improved Jordan Mugen-Honda 198 and I would hope to see both cars finish again in the points tomorrow."
