Jordan supporting Fisichella's future

Eddie Jordan would like to keep hold of Giancarlo Fisichella but he's supporting the Italian's ambitions to drive for one of the top teams. Fisichella, who won his first Grand Prix, albeit in a delayed fashion, in Brazil, has made no secret of his desire to be with a top team. Jordan is doing his best to help him and has spoken to Ferrari, Williams and McLaren about Fisichella's future.

"I want to see my drivers in the top three teams," Jordan explained. "I would rather see him get a chance of the world championship than not. I don't want to stop my drivers getting to the top. I've spoken with the team bosses of the top three teams about it. I told him (Fisichella) I would help him, but I would prefer him to stay with Jordan. We've had drivers of the calibre of Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill in the past."

"It has been a difficult last nine months," Jordan added. "But we got the win, which Giancarlo deserved, and now the aim is to get as many points as possible to ensure we develop. I think he has proven he can be a race winner, but everyone already knew how good a racing driver he is. He is a very professional driver. I'm glad he is at Jordan and hope he is for a long time."

It's been suggested that Williams is the most likely team for Fisichella to head to, amid rumours that they are considering dropping Ralf Schumacher. Reportedly Williams are unhappy with Schumacher's performance and frustrated with his inconsistency. Ralf's contract runs until the end of 2004 but it's not unknown for driver's contracts to be terminated.

However, Williams deny the speculation and Schumacher is not amused: "It's news to me," he said, according to the BBC. "I am working on my future after 2004 and I'm talking to a number of teams. But my first choice is Williams and my contract goes to the end of 2004."
