Luxembourg GP Sauber race notes
Jean Alesi: I had too much wheelspin at the start so I was slow away. All round the lap I had to defend my position but I always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time! After that it was just tough, but we finished, which is important.
Jean Alesi: I had too much wheelspin at the start so I was slow away. All round the lap I had to defend my position but I always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time! After that it was just tough, but we finished, which is important. It's just a shame that F1 is so competitive at the moment. Our lap times were good, but things are so close that everything must be right - practice and qualifying, not just the race.
Johnny Herbert: My start wasn't great, and though we had reverted to our Saturday set-up I still had much of the massive understeer I'd experienced after we tried a change this morning. I changed my style when I got my second set of tyres, to try and minimise the problem, and to an extent it worked. I was closing on Jean, but just as it was getting interesting the engine broke.
Peter Sauber:
For us, in common with some others, it was a race without many incidents. Compared to our grid position we were only able to make up one place, though Jean as usual drove a good race. Until his retirement, Johnny was also going well.
Weather:
Overcast but dry.
