Team RED BULL SAUBER PETRONAS completed an important two days test in Mugello Saturday and Sunday.
Kimi Räikkönen completed 40 laps with the C20, recording 1.24.16 which was competitive with the Ferrari from Michael Schumacher also testing on the same track. On Sunday, Nick Heidfeld took over driving the car to record the fastest time of the day (1.23.35s). Nick Heidfeld completed 78 laps.
Jacky Eeckelaert (Head of Test team): "Once again we had specific purpose for our test. Principally we did more aerodynamic work. We learned a lot not only for Melbourne, but also for the fly-away races and the first European race in Barcelona. We also did more electronic mapping work and general tuning in readiness for the weeks to come.
"We lost a little time on Saturday when Kimi Räikkönen encountered a tansmission problem. But Kimi Räikkönen managed to complete his schedule later on in the afternoon. It was a good plan to come to Mugello. Team RED BULL SAUBER PETRONAS had a chance to run with useful tyre specifications for the week end in Melbourne. We also completed a comparison between the two available tyre components.
"We also tested new aerodznamic parts created by CFD and optimised in the wind tunnel used by Team RED BULL SAUBER PETRONAS.
"Basically the two days program in Italy went according to plan and we feel that we are now in good shape before packing the cars for the overseas trip.
"This test confirmed the reliability of our cars and we were pleased that Nick Heidfeld drove 78 laps and has beaten the existing Mugello circuit lap record of 1.23.41."
