Former Skip Barber Race Series regional champion Josh Rehm met Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head, principles of the BMW-Williams Grand Prix team at the recent Canadian Grand Prix as part of the Inside F1 Young Driver Award. Rehm was selected last January from a pool of American drivers by an advisory panel put together by the weekly Formula 1 newsletter Inside F1. The purpose of the award is not to grant scholarships or test rides but rather to disseminate knowledge.

As the first recipient, Rehm now has an inside track into the workings of the top tier of the sport. At his disposal during various times throughout the year will be the collective wisdom of the advisory board made up of former drivers, engineers, media and others who will serve to guide and provide insight to young American drivers who aspire to reach the world's most prestigious formula.

"It was an honor to meet both Frank and Patrick. They have helped focus my efforts towards what will be most productive. When you combine limited time and resources with all the options your racing path can take, it is very easy to get lost, or sidetracked. Getting it from the horse's mouth was fantastic. As multiple World Champions, and with what they have done picking Jenson Button I feel privileged to be able to get their advice."

Rehm met with Sir Frank and Head for an hour to chat about Rehm's aspirations and background. Rehm is planning on driving in the Barber Dodge Pro Series some time in the near future.

"With the return of the United States Grand Prix it is clear that the US needs drivers in F1," said Mark Karp of Inside F1. "We intend to use our experience, contacts, and affiliations to help make it happen."

The Inside F1 Young Driver Award was established in January 2000 as part of a plan to guide and promote American drivers towards Formula One. Along with the Advisory Board, it will select a pool of drivers with F1 potential.
