Italian: Mugello practice summary

Fisichella Motor Sport's Alessandro Ciompi set the fastest time in the free practice session held today, Friday 1st of July, at Mugello, for the round five of the CSAI F3000 Italian Trophy. Ciompi was the only one to record less than 1'41'', reaching, in the final phases of the session, the time of 1'40"823.

Second best time for his teammate, and leader in the championship, Luca Filippi, who was first for great part of the practice session. In this good day for Italian colours, Giacomo Ricci took an important third place for the Astromega Team. First of the non Italian drivers was the Czech Jarek Janis, in this winding and demanding circuit, which reminds him of his home circuit of Brno.

Fifth in the time sheets Pastor Maldonado for Sighinolfi, while Toni Vilander, who won here more than once with his F3 car, recorded the 6th fastest time. GP Racing were satisfied with the 7th place of their driver's Alex Lloyd and the 9th of Juan Caceres. Between them was Durango's Maro Engel. Stefano Gattuso, the leader of the Light classification, took the 12th place with the time of1'43"268.

The session was suspended for 15 minutes because of an off-track by Riccardo Mari, driving for the first time Euronova's B02/50. First appearance in the Trophy for the Algerian driver Nassim Sidi Said, driving a B99/50 for Azeta Racing, and Giuseppe Chiminelli with Euronova's B99/50.
