Also of Note: It’s been a dozen years since the Trans-Am and Can-Am names were featured on the same ticket (Mosport Park, 1986), and this weekend continues a new era in North American motorsports as the “modern” Can-Am Championship—now competing under the USRRC banner—and the NTB Trans-Am are once again teamed. This week will be the second of three 1998 venues featuring both the NTB Trans-Am and Can-Am (Homestead, May 16-17; Minneapolis, June 27-28).

The Can-Am Championship, along with the GT Championship, enters Round Three of its “rebirth” season this weekend. The Can-Am is in its 20th season overall, and the first in its “modern” era. Seasons from 1966-1974 and 1977-1986 are considered the historic era. This weekend marks the Can-Am’s 13th appearance at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and is the third race in the modern Can-Am era (158th overall).
