Grim weather conditions have culminated in lightning in the area over the Florida racecourse, obliging the corner workers to leave their posts and return to the pits.
The race is on hold with Corvette DPs holding the top four positions in the Prototype class, Christian Fittipaldi ahead of Dane Cameron in an Action Express 1-2. Behind are Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing machine and Marc Goossens in the VisitFlorida.com car. The two Ligier-Hondas of Michael Shank Racing and Extreme Speed Motorsports are fifth and seventh, split by the Alegra Motorsports Riley-BMW with Carlos de Quesada at the wheel.
There is a Porsche 1-2 in GTLM, as Nick Tandy struts his brilliant wet-weather prowess ahead of teammate Earl Bamber, with Tommy Milner third in the #4 Corvette Racing C7.R, and Richard Westbrook fourth in the #67 Ford EcoBoost GT.
Sadly the #66 Ford of Dirk Muller hit the tire barrier and while it hasn’t been retired yet, the incident brought out the fourth caution and the machine is two laps down on the GTLM class leaders.
The third caution was caused by another GTLM car, the #68 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 of Andrea Bertolini which got stuck on course.
In GT Daytona, Mario Farnbacher has the Porsche 911 of Alex Job Racing at the front of the line, with Matt Bell’s Audi R8 (Stevenson Motorsports) right behind and Corey Lewis in a Change Racing Lamborghini in third.
