Tech 3 Racing Team face difficult British Moto2 race

The Tech 3 Racing squad faces a difficult challenge to score points in the long-awaited Silverstone Moto2 race after a frustrating and disappointing qualifying session for the British round this afternoon.

Raffaele de Rosa made his bid for a top grid position difficult after he suffered a spectacular high-side crash in the twisty early section of the fast and challenging Silverstone circuit.

The Italian rider will start from 36th position on the grid having set a best time of 2.12.360 and he was fortunate to walk away unscathed in the high-side and will be fit to start tomorrow's 18-lap race.

It was also an afternoon full of frustration for Yuki Takahashi, who was relegated down the rankings from the third row of the grid to a lowly 38th.

The Japanese rider had all of his fast laps cancelled from counting because of a small infringement. Riders are penalised if using tarmac areas behind the kerbs, and Takahashi was one of several in the 41-strong Moto2 field to fall foul of the rule. He was officially clocked with a best lap of 2.12.568.

Herve Poncharal -- Team Manager

"I am really having to bite my tongue because once again this has been a complete disaster. Raffaele has suffered another weekend where he has crashed a lot while not being able to reach a competitive pace. All we can do is continue to work to try and understand his problems, but we are struggling to find an answer at the moment and this is very disappointing for the whole Tech 3 Racing Team. I am really disappointed for Yuki because despite encountering some problems he did a lap time good enough to be on the third row. But we have to accept it and try and bounce back stronger tomorrow in the race and salvage something from what has been an incredibly difficult weekend."
