Atlanta Motor Speedway Pit Notes 1 - March 6, 2010
KURT BUSCH TO GO DRAG RACING: Two years ago, Kurt Busch attended opening night at the zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C., and quickly caught the drag racing bug. The wheels in his mind started turning, and within months he'd purchased a 1970 Dodge Challenger on Ebay for $15,000. Thousands of dollars and man hours later, and Busch is ready to debut his new drag racing car at next weekend's Tire Kingdom NHRA Gator Nationals at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway.
Busch and his Challenger (yet unnamed but laughingly referred to as "Big Headache" for now) will compete in the Super Gas class of the sportsman division.
"It's fun to be able to do something like this," Busch said. "I guess I can't quite correlate it to Danica coming to NASCAR, but Kurt's going drag racing. So I don't know if the media will be as intense when we get to Gainesville, but we're gonna have fun with it."
CANCER SCREENINGS: There will be head and neck cancer screenings Saturday and Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the front display lot between Champions Grandstand Gates 14 and 15.
