PURVIS FASTEST AS NASCAR BUSCH SERIES TEAMS OPEN AT DAYTONA DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- After testing was postponed by rain on Thursday, Jeff Purvis of Clarksville, Tenn., posted the fastest time as NASCAR Busch Series teams tested Friday at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for the NAPA Auto Parts 300 scheduled for Feb. 14.

Purvis was clocked at 46.780 seconds, for an average speed of 192.390 mph in his No. 4 Lance Snacks Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

After winning the NAPA Auto Parts 300 in 1997, two-time defending NASCAR Busch Series champion Randy LaJoie appreciates the difficulty of winning the Series' premier event. "There's so many small things that play huge factors at Daytona. We came down here last year with a good package, and if we can duplicate that effort again, I think we can win this race two times in a row.

"Winning that race one time is hard enough, but to win it back-to-back would be pretty awesome. Anytime you drive into Daytona's Victory Lane, it's a race car driver's dream. I drove into the old Victory Lane, and now I need to drive into the new (remodeled) one."

Due to Thursday's rain, the NASCAR Busch Series test will continue tomorrow in conjunction with the scheduled NASCAR Goody's Dash Series test.

A section of the Oldfield Grandstand is open daily at no charge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with access through DAYTONA USA, "The Ultimate Motorsports Attraction." Guided tours of the Speedway are also available from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a nominal fee.
