Wall makes Porsche switch for 2016

The former Australian GT Champion endured a tough season with Volvo, which ultimately ended in the GRM team opting to sign James Moffat to race the #34 for 2016.

With Wall likely to be kept on as an endurance driver at GRM, the Sydneysider has elected to switch to the Carrera Cup full-time next season, signing on with family team Wall Racing.

“It is no secret that I have a passion for racing sports cars, so for me the prospect of returning to Carrera Cup is an exciting one,” said Wall.

“I have already had an opportunity to test drive a current Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car. It was amazing to drive, as you would expect!

“The whole Carrera Cup package, including grip from the Michelin tyres, is great from a driver’s point of view. It really feels like coming home.

“The category is incredibly strong at the moment – easily one of the strongest one make categories in the world – so I know it is not going to be an easy task. I am really looking forward to the challenge it offers.”

Looking overseas

Wall added that the decision to race in Carrera Cup is tied in with an ambition to do more GT and sportscar racing, both in Australia and overseas.

“The move back to sportscar racing is the direction I want my career to head,” he said.

“In addition to Carrera Cup, I am looking at a few exciting opportunities racing in categories both here in Australia and overseas.

“Globally it is a very exciting time for GT3 racing. I have some races on my wish list that I am aiming for, and racing in Carrera Cup is part of working toward achieving that goal.”
