An Impressive Showing For Team Concept

HICKORY, N.C. (August 5, 2001)- Jon Kerley and Team Concept Racing, of Catawba Valley Community College, put on a heck of a show in front of their local fans this past Saturday night in USAR Procup series action. The Stony Point, N.C. native and his crew brought home an impressive fifth place finish, highlighting a sponsorship program that Body Dynamics and America's Most Wanted plan to put in full force in Winston Cup competition next season.

Kerley qualified the #44 WFMX, 1-800-CRIME TV Ford Taurus, in the second position at a time of 15.408 seconds. The team missed the Lance Snacks Pole Award by just eight thousands of a second. Starting on the outside pole was the team's best qualifying effort of the 2001 season. " I am really happy for our team," Kerley said. "Hopefully, we can build on our qualifying effort with a strong finish tonight."

During the race's early stages, Kerley remained strong by continuing to run in the top five. He would stay there until he pitted on lap 80, under caution. With the most of the field staying out on the track, Kerley found himself back in 15th position on the restart. Using a lot of patience to maneuver past traffic along with having a strong car, he began to work his way back to the front.

By the race's midpoint, Kerley was running in the third position. He took the lead under caution on lap 157, and held the point for the next 31 laps until being passed by eventual

race winner Mario Gosselin. Kerley would eventually settle into the fifth position and hold that position for the remaining laps. It was a strong run for Team Concept.

"With the way our season has gone so far, it felt great to lead some laps and come home with a top five finish," Kerely said. "This was a lift the team needed"

Team Concept looks to keep the momentum going at the next USAR event at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, August 18, 2001.

The CVCC Bobby Isaac Motorsports Program was established in 1997 as a memorial to the late NASCAR Champion, Bobby Isaac. It is the only college hands-on program in the United States where students actually build, field and serve as a pit crew in a professional racing division. The student team builds three stock cars a year and competes in 20 races in the USAR Procup regular season.
