SCCA signs letter of intent to license Trans-Am name

SCCA® signs letter of intent to license Trans-Am® name for 2004 racing season.

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 23, 2004) -- Sports Car Club of America, Inc. (SCCA®) announced today that it has a signed letter of intent to enter into a contract granting the operational, administrative, marketing and licensing rights of its trademarked name Trans-Am®.

The agreement is expected to be complete in the near future, and the announcement guarantees that there will be a Trans-Am series in 2004.

"We're very pleased to announce that there will be an SCCA Trans-Am series in 2004, and that the longest continuously-running road racing series will carry on its tradition," SCCA President and CEO Steve Johnson said. "We're very confident that this new group will make Trans-Am fans proud with its philosophy and vision."

More details about the agreement will be released when it is finalized.

In 2004, the SCCA Trans-Am series will be its 39th season of competition, dating back to its first season, in 1966. Some of the greatest names in racing have won Trans-Am Championships, including Jerry Titus, Mark Donohue, Parnelli Jones, George Follmer, Peter Gregg, Bob Tullius, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, David Hobbs, Scott Pruett, Hurley Haywood, Tom Kendall, Scott Sharp, Paul Gentilozzi and Boris Said.
