AMRA TAKES OVER RACE CITY NATIONAL

TORONTO, Ont. (April 15) - The organizers behind one of Canada's most successful motorsports enterprises have taken over the running of this year's Parts Canada Superbike Championship event at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park.

Fox Family Roadracing Ltd. will look after the administration and promotion of the second and third rounds of the 2010 Parts Canada Superbike season, scheduled for June 24-27 at the 3.2km (2.0-mile) race track, working in co-operation with national series organizer Professional Motorsports Productions.

Jay Fox and his wife Bernedette have spearheaded the growth of the Alberta Mini Roadracing Association over the past decade. They are joined in the venture by their son Matt and daughter Allyssa.

The AMRA has been the launch pad for a number of Canadian road racing careers. Brett McCormick of Saskatoon, who was recently signed to the Jordan Suzuki team in the AMA Pro Racing SuperBike Series is a graduate of the AMRA program. Others to come through the organization's ranks include 2009 National Amateur Sport Bike champion Cody Matechuk of Cochrane, Alta. and Coaldale, Alta.'s Royce McLean, one of the top rookie Pros in last year's Parts Canada Superbike Championship.

"We're working on lot of things right now," said Jay Fox. "This is going to be a busy weekend for us and we'll be relying on the AMRA and our executive to pitch in wherever possible."

The Race City weekend will include a wide range of racing and riding activities. In addition to the doubleheader round for the Parts Canada Superbike, Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike, Amateur Sport Bike and Twin Sports classes, the event will also feature the first ever tripleheader for the Honda CBR125R Challenge.

The CBR competitors will compete Saturday and Sunday on the full Race City road course before turning their attention Monday to the adjacent 1.1km (0.66-mile) Varsity Chrysler Speed Park.

The weekend will also feature the Rocky Mountain Honda Powerhouse Rally, a spectacle that will include Honda demo rides, mini dirt bike test rides, an adventure bike demo course and special VIP packages.

The Parts Canada Superbike Championship has a rich history at Race City Motorsport Park, which hosted its first national in 1987. Calgary is also the home base for Parts Canada, which is celebrating its 10th year as title sponsor of the national series.

"The Race City weekend is a big one for us and we feel fortunate to have a professional and well-seasoned organization like Fox Family Roadracing Ltd. helping us," said Colin Fraser of PMP. "We are sorry Tim Johnson and his group are not able to continue with the event and thank them for their help last season."

The 2010 season opens May 28-30 at Circuit ICAR near Montreal.
