A good result for Hexis at Paul Ricard in preparation for Spa

This evening a sad ambience reigned at Paul Ricard after the fatal accident of which Andrea Mamé was the victim in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race, a curtain-raiser to the third round of the Blancpain Endurance Series.

On home turf the Hexis Racing team achieved its best result of the season with a second-place finish after three hours’ racing, and it would like to send its condolences to the family and friends of the Italian driver.

This afternoon at 15h00 the 60 cars were unleashed after a minute’s silence in memory of Andrea Mamé and Allan Simonsen, the Danish driver killed in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Alvaro Parente, who had qualified the Hexis Racing McLaren in fifth place, quickly moved up to fourth.

The Portuguese driver fought like a lion to get into third place before the end of his stint. The team’s first pit stop was so fast that Stef Dusseldorp went out in second place and he then passed the no. 3 Marc VDS BMW to take the lead.

The Dutchman managed to stay in front for ten laps before being overtaken by the Kessel Racing Ferrari, winner at Monza. Once again the Hexis pit squad pulled off another lightning stop and Alexander Sims rejoined in the wake of the F458, which he promptly shot past!

Once the British driver was firmly installed in the lead he kept the Ferrari at bay until the latter was penalised for an infringement during refuelling. The French-entered MP-4 12C GT3 then came under threat again from the BMW.

On the 75th of the 81 laps they exchanged places and the Hexis Racing McLaren took the flag in second position. Thanks to this result the French team is now back in contention in the fight in the overall classification for the championship title.

A week after crossing the line in the Le Mans 24 Hours in a Corvette entered by Larbre Competition, Philippe Dumas was back in his job as Hexis Racing team manager at Paul Ricard. “I’ve got an attack of the blues, a bit like the way Benoït Tréluyer said he felt after the Le Mans 24 Hours. In the race the team was almost perfect and it deserves hearty congratulations.

I’m very happy with the pit stops, the strategy and our three drivers never put a foot wrong. When you do a job like that normally you win. I’m not at all bitter; I’m very pleased to bring a trophy to the workshop before Spa. I’d also like to dedicate it to McLaren GT.”

Hexis Racing will be at Val de Vienne this coming weekend for the next round of the French Championship.
