ARGENTINIAN GRAND PRIX SUNDAY 12TH APRIL 1998

The Argentinian Grand Prix was disappointing for the Benson and Hedges Jordan team. Having qualified strongly in fifth place, Ralf Schumacher lost his grid position after a poor start. His problems continued when the car became nervous in the rear, and he retired on the 24th lap with a broken top rear wishbone.

Damon Hill improved his qualifying position by one place to finish the race in eighth position, but this result was unfortunately not good enough to win the team any points.

DAMON HILL CHASSIS 03 Finished 8th

"I initially made up a few places at the start, but then lost them all again at the first corner, so ended back where I started! I pushed to try and stay with Wurz and struggled a little, but stayed with him pretty much.

But then I made a mistake in the first corner, which is where Fisichella got me, and from then on I seemed to slip backwards. Then I was racing Herbert, and he opened the door so I went to put my car down the inside and he just chopped across me. I thought I had lost the nose because I felt a draft coming up through the car, but it was a hole, so I came in to change the nose cone. Eighth place is not much good to me and I am not happy to have come back from the first three races with nothing."

RALF SCHUMACHER CHASSIS 04 Did not finish – Broken rear top wishbone

"I slipped the clutch and the wheels spun so I had a really bad start which left me in 13th position. I was then stuck behind Barrichello and could not overtake him. Then the rear of the car became more and more nervous and I spun. I thought it was the brake pressure so I called to come into the pits. The team checked the car while we changed tyres, but it seemed ok. But then I spun again and when I got out of the car I saw that the rear suspension (top wishbone) was broken."

EDDIE JORDAN

"We still have a lot to find."

The Benson and Hedges Jordan team will test at Silverstone from 15th 17th April. 15th Ralf Schumacher 16th Damon Hill 17th Pedro de la Rosa
