The final week of pre-season testing started today and at Silverstone in the UK it was BAR's Takuma Sato who set the best time. Only four drivers from three teams took to the track and Sato's best was a 1:19.539 in the BAR 006.
Jarno Trulli was second fastest in the Renault R24 and team test driver Franck Montagny third in the R23. Trulli worked on gearboxes and shaking down the chassis for Melbourne while Montagny's progamme for the day was front suspension and tyres.
New Jaguar test driver Bjorn Wirdheim finally got some track action after missing out at last week's Valencia test due to bad weather. He was last of the four, over a second off Sato's time.
In Italy, Ferrari kicked off the week in solitary confinement at Imola with Rubens Barrichello setting a best of 1:21.720 over 98 laps. Barrichello worked on development of the F2004 and will be joined by Michael Schumacher tomorrow.
Not only Schumacher, but McLaren, Toyota and Williams are also scheduled to arrive at Imola tomorrow. It will be the first time for the new Ferrari to be on track with rival teams.
