Four drivers so far will suffer the ten place grid demotion penalty after qualifying for engine changes. Sauber's Giancarlo Fisichella was the first casualty, breaking down on the start straight in yesterday's first practice.

Fisichella was remarkably cheerful despite the penalty, after setting some very good times on Friday. "This step here in Silverstone is probably the biggest of them all. The car is very well balanced and stable, and I was able to do a very good lap time."

Fernando Alonso had to change engines after today's practice sessions. He will continue in his race car with the engine from the spare. Renault are not sure exactly what the problem was. A setback for Alonso, who was second in France and is on the pace this weekend.

Both Minardis had engine changes but starting at the back is not a new experience for Gianmaria Bruni and Zsolt Baumgartner. However, as both Minardis completed qualifying laps and Fisichella didn't make his second one, they will be in front of the Sauber.
