Massa and Gomme unharmed

Sauber's Felipe Massa and Jordan fuel hose operator Mick Gomme were unharmed after their separate incidents in the Canadian Grand Prix yesterday. Massa suffered a heavy impact at high speed when his car went headfirst into the barrier at the hairpin. He looked a little shaky when he got out and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Sauber is investigating the cause of the crash but Massa is fine. "I have no idea what happened -- I was just a passenger," said the Brazilian. "I'm okay and fortunate that the car is strong, and only went to the hospital for a precautionary check-up on my left elbow."

Gomme suffered shock and bruising when the lollipop man raised too early in Nick Heidfeld's pit stop and the Jordan pulled away with the fuel hose, and Gomme, still attached. Heidfeld was relieved Gomme was basically unharmed but it lost him valuable time.

"The lollipop came up too early and I went over the guy on the fuel nozzle," said the German. "He's okay, which is the most important thing, but I lost nearly a minute and my race was lost after that."

However, Jordan was appeased when F1 rookie Timo Glock and Heidfeld were promoted into the points after Williams and Toyota were disqualified due to brake irregularities. Sauber had reason to be cheerful too, as Giancarlo Fisichella was also promoted, from sixth to fourth.
