Suriya Bala signs with Asia Racing Team

Asia Racing Team announced today that Suriya Bala Kerisnan Thevar will drive for the team during the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Series season.

After two seasons in Karting, Suriya moved up to single seaters last year. He got his first taste of Formula racing when he drove Asia Racing Team's Formula Renault at Shanghai. In 2009 he managed to be the first Singaporean driver to race in single seaters in Singapore Grand Prix, and achieved a "Top-10" in the stunning Macau Grand Prix.

The youngster single seater driver from Singapore is excited to open a new chapter of his racing career the first full season in single seaters.

Speaking about the season ahead, Suriya said, "I had limited days of testing due to budget constraints. I will just wait for the first race in Sepang to see where I'm going to stand among the other drivers. I'm really looking forward to the season and my home race in Singapore. Pre-season testing was great. I felt a lot of difference in my driving, from the first day till now. I'm half way there and I am going to work hard physically before the Introductory Test."

Team Manager Philippe Descombes, added "We are very pleased to have Suriya back in the seat with Asia Racing Team. Suriya showed last season he can be very competitive and has grown and matured on and off the race track over the last year due in part to the support of his family and the many positive influences in his life. Our six days of testing went very well, and we had a lot of track time. I am quite happy with Suriya's development. We want to provide him with every opportunity we can to develop as a driver."

2010 Formula BMW Pacific, is all set for a stellar season in 2010, with an optimal combination of high- profile showcase events and challenging four-race weekends, and an exciting line up of new teams and drivers.

Racing across Asia for the eighth year in 2010, the season will open at the Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix in April. The series will also support the FIA Formula One World Championship in Singapore, with the potential for a third event at the inaugural Formula 1 Korean Grand Prix. Giving the young drivers plenty of track time will be two Asian Festival of Speed meetings, scheduled for Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit and the new F1 circuit in Korea, while the series hopes to return to the Macau Grand Prix for a third successive year for a spectacular season-closer in November.
