RUM BUM RACING GARNERS BEST EVER STARTING SPOT WITH TOP 5 RESULT
MILLVILLE, NJ, 17 July - In his debut performance behind the wheel of Rum Bum Racing's No 13 BMW M3, driver Nick Longhi secured the squad's best qualifying result to date. He will line up fifth on the starting grid for this afternoon's Garden State 250, round 8 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
Overnight rain and high humidity meant that the track was wet when the team arrived this morning. However, since qualifying followed after some track sessions by other series, much of it had dried in time for Continental qualifying. Yet, just because the track is dry, doesn't mean that the bordering grass is, as Longhi would ultimately discover.
On his first hot lap, just at the turn-in point to turn 1, some water was seeping onto the edge of the track. Longhi just managed to get a a tire on the white margin line flicking the M3 into a broad slide, spoiling his effort. Thereafter, bad luck with traffic quashed any attempts at an improvement, while the other teams all benefitted from Longhi's discovery of the treacherous bit of track.
"Nick did a stellar job in his first qualifying session for us so we couldn't be happier," said co-driver Matt Plumb.
