QKC: Season finale summary

Montreal, Quebec -- September 23, 2004 -- The 25th edition of the Quebec Karting Championship ended on a high note last weekend with the running of the sixth and ultimate round of the season in Grand-Mere, Quebec. After having staged races in Montreal, Quebec City, Thetford Mines, Mont Joli and Trois-Rivieres, the provincial karting championship crowned its eleven new champions in Grand-Mere. This hotly disputed series served as the launching pad to the career of many of Quebec's best international racers such as Tagliani, Godin, Villeneuve, Bourbonnais, Ranger and today, Lacroix. With talented drivers, challenging tracks and fast machines, the Quebec Karting Championship is undoubtedly the best learning school for young aspiring race car drivers.

In the ICC category (125cc shifter karts), Kevin Lacroix unsurprisingly captured the title ahead of the talented David Michaud. In ICA, Toby Rinaldoni -- who had just healed his broken hand -- secured the title while Antoine Genest finished runner-up in the final point standings. Having scored steady results all year long, the charming Jessica Galarneau claimed the title in the ICA Junior category, finishing in front of Xavier Coupal. In the Formula Auto Quebec class -- an affordable development series -- the race for the title was hotly contested all season long and in the end, Isidoro Sasso finally secured first place ahead of Thierry St-Onge. In Formula Junior -- a category for the 11 to 14 years old - Olivier Sirois of Quebec City beat the 2002 Cadet champion, Mathieu Bourgoin.

In the regional categories, the 2004 provincial champions are Lucka Barbeau in Cadet; the sympathetic and very talented Alex Labbe in 4-stroke Honda Junior; the indestructible Yan Beauregard in 4-stroke Honda Senior; Samuel Charland in Max Junior; Kelly-Mark Michaud in FR125 Max and veteran Luc Couture in the Masters class.

The Quebec Karting Commission would like to congratulate the new champions and thank all the participants, the actors of the championship and the members of the medias who helped raised the profile of the sport.
