Notes: This is the first time Goodyear has brought this specific combination of left- and right-side tires to Michigan . . . Goodyear ran this left-side code during NASCAR's visit to Michigan back in June, but with a different right-side code . . . both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series will run the same tire codes this weekend . . . this is the only track at which NASCAR teams will run this specific tire combination in 2005, though this left-side code (D-6852) will be run at California, Charlotte, Chicago, and Kansas . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in their tires at Michigan . . . the inflation in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
Goodyear Quote -- Mark Keto, Lead Engineer, Stock Car Racing: Michigan: "The first race at Michigan went well, but the right-side wear was slightly marginal on a green race track. We adjusted that compound to improve the wear, while maintaining the same level of grip. Based on recent team testing at Michigan, the change was transparent from the driver's standpoint, and the wear was improved."
