NASCAR Touring Doubleheader on Tap for August 25

Mansfield Motorsports Park's 2007 oval track schedule has been completed with the addition of a unique doubleheader featuring two regional NASCAR touring series. On August 25, MMP will play host to the NASCAR Busch East Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

"We've worked on this one for a long time," said MMP president and general manager Chris Mize. "We have a great relationship with NASCAR and we are very pleased to be able to bring these two series to Mansfield for one great show.

"The Busch East series will give our fans some of the best racing all season long. There are so many great drivers in that series; some up-and-coming young drivers and some veterans that have been around for a very long time. You get that mix of drivers and it's always going to put on a great show.

"The Whelen Modified Tour is something I have wanted here personally for many years," Mize continued. "They are some of the coolest cars in all of racing. They are open wheel stock cars. They sit low to the ground and run very wide tires. They have a lot of power and can stop on a dime. I think the Modified race could very well be the best race we see at MMP all season long."

The six events on the schedule are all that are planned at this time for the MMP oval track. However, Mize says another event is not totally out of the question.

"We've heard from some other sanctioning bodies that have expressed an interest in racing here in 2007," Mize said. "If we can reach an agreement that is beneficial to everyone, another event is not totally out of the question. We would really like it if we could work it in to one of our existing event weekends. We wanted to give our fans the best racing in the Midwest, and I think our schedule as it sits does that. But if we could tweak it a little bit and make it even better, we would definitely think long and hard about doing that."

Renewals are already being accepted for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ohio 250, while tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday November 27. For ticket information for any event at Mansfield Motorsports Park, call the track ticket office at (419) 525-RACE (7223) or visit the track's website at www.mansfield-speedway.com.
