Cathcart set to continue climbing the curve

14 July, 2003 - Victorian driver, Clint Cathcart this weekend heads to the Queensland Raceway to compete in Round five of the Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship and in the process continue to climb the learning curve.

While the 24-year-old has never visited the circuit previously he is confident that he can adapt quickly to the layout of the 3.121 km circuit, "Once again it will be a case of trying to learn the circuit in the first qualifying session and then continually improve throughout the weekend," says Cathcart.

"Realistically by the end of the weekend I will be aiming to be inside the top 15."

While missing the previous round of the Championship in Western Australia Cathcart used the 8-week break by taking in several days of testing aboard the CC Racing Spectrum.

"It would have been good to head across the Nullarbor but I think I probably gained more out of the test days that myself and the Borland team completed than spending the money to compete in Perth," commented Cathcart.

In the corresponding round last year Cathcart was competing at the adjacent Willowbank Karting raceway where he sealed his Ford KartStars crown assisting him to make the step into the national Formula Ford Championship this year.

Throughout the opening two rounds of this year's KartStars Series Cathcart has been passing his knowledge to the next group of CC Racing pilots to be coming through the ranks. Clint's father Peter, will head up the CC Racing support team this weekend at the KartStars event but Clint will be on hand come Saturday evening for the Final.

"It's great to still be involved with karting and pass some of my knowledge on to guide these guys onto bigger and better things," said Clint.

CC Racing will have six drivers in action at the Ford KartStars event with current Australian Champion Josh Aarandt and Troy Woolsten leading the charge.

Qualifying for the fifth round of the Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship will be held at 9:30am and 11:30am followed by two 10-lap races on Sunday at 10:30am and 4:00pm.

Queensland Raceway is located 55km South-west of Brisbane. 1km off Cunningham Highway (Highway 15) on Champions Way, Willowbank.
