DOMINICK MUERMANS TO RACE IN INTERNATIONAL FORMULA MASTER WITH OMBRA RACING
BERGAMO (ITALY), MARCH 1, 2007 -- Dominick Muermans has signed with Ombra Racing to take part in the 2007 International Formula Master Series. By signing Muermans the Italian team has now completed its line-up for 2007. Johnny Cecotto junior will race alongside Muermans in the series.
The young Dutch driver has developed very quickly during the short time he is now racing professionally. Only two years ago Muermans dream of being a racing driver became reality when he made his debut in the Formula Renault 2.0 at the Easter races on Zandvoort. He was able to defend himself against several more experienced drivers during his first season in the Dutch Championship and managed to score several points. To get more mileage and more knowledge of the international circuits Muermans also took part in almost the entire German Formula Renault 2.0 championship. In 2006 Muermans moved up to the German Formula 3 Championship.
After ending his first season in Formula 3 with Van Amersfoort Racing on a high with a double points-finish, the 22-year old driver went to the United States where he got his first taste of a Champ Car Atlantics car. After successful tests at Paul Ricard in a GP2 Series car and a World Series Formula Renault 3.5 car, Muermans set sail for the United States again to race in the CFR Jan National Race (Atlantics). To prepare himself for the Formula Master Series season Muermans will drive for Jensen Motorsport in the first three Champ Car Atlantic Championship races on the American street courses of Las Vegas, Long Beach and Houston.
The International Formula Master Series will be a high-profile series created to prepare talented drivers for a Formula 1 career. So far 26 race cars have been sold and a huge media coverage deal has been secured (Eurosport will broadcast the series for at least five years). The Formula Master Series will race as a support series with the FIA WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) and promises to be a real spectacular race series.
MASSIMO POLLINI (TEAMMANAGER): "We're very happy of the deal with Dominick: we've been following him all through the year in Recaro F3 Cup and he became faster and consistent every race. His F3 experience, together with the winter season Dominick is doing in the USA, is certainly the best preparation for being a front runner in 2007 F.Master. I'm sure Dominick and Johnny will work well together and this makes Ombra very strong!"
DOMINICK MUERMANS: "It is super that I will be able to drive for Ombra Racing in the International Formula Master Series. The team has years of experience and they have a lot of good engineers. We decided to go for Ombra Racing, because it is a very professional team and team manager Massimo Polini has a good relation with the engine builder. I think my decision to switch to the Formula Master Series was the right one in my aim to get further in the international racing world. This is a big chance for me and I intend to get good results. Besides racing in Formula Master Series I will also test Ombra Racing's Formula 3 cars. The tyres on both cars are the same and I will be able to make a lot of extra miles. I really want to thank Ombra Racing for giving me this opportunity."
