FCS: Mont-Tremblant race notes

Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, June 29th. Examples of some of the greatest cars from Ferrari's and Maserati's past highlighted a weekend of racing at LeCircuit in Mont-Tremblant, a Canadian ski resort north of Montreal. The event wasn't just a car display: there was close wheel to wheel racing among the drivers in the Shell Ferrari/Maserati Historic Challenge as well.

In the Drum Brake group Tom Price drove his Maserati 200 SI to overall victory on both days, but a pair of well-matched 250 TRs put on the show. Ed Davies finally triumphed over Lawrence Stroll for the class wins, but each day saw a tight battle from the pair. Steven Dudley (250 TdF) was also a double class winner as was Peter Giddings (Alfa 8C 2300 Monza), and Price won the 4-cylinder class over the husband and wife pair of Greg (857 S) and Chantal (500 TRC) Chamandy.

Todd Morici was an easy overall winner in both Disc Brake races; the past Historic Challenge champion drove his ex-NART 512 BB/LM to almost a full lap margin. Davies, Price and Stroll all made a reappearance on the Disc Brake Grid, each in a 250 GTO. The trio was never more than a few lengths from each other in the first race. Price suffered a rare gearbox problem and was unable to make the second grid, leaving Stroll and Davies to share the fight. Davies won both races, in each case by less than two car lengths. Chuck Wegner took a pair of wins in his rare 196 SP, a car which had been stored away for almost 40 years. Bill Noon (308 GT Michelotto) was the final class winner among the Disc cars.

A "Regularity Challenge" was also part of the weekend. In this event teams tried to precisely duplicate a specific lap time over a series of laps on the track. Winners were Jon Shirley and Butch Dennison in Shirley's 250 TR.

The next event for the Shell Ferrari/Maserati Historic Challenge will be at Lime Rock Park as part of "Ferrari Days," on July 10-12. The Ferrari (360) Challenge will be part of this event as well, which celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Ferrari Challenge concept in North America.
