Caleb Kenney Earns First Top-5 at The Rock
LIME ROCK, Conn. -- Caleb Kenney earned a career best finish in the the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup at Lime Rock Park in the picturesque countryside of North East Connecticut. Kenney, driving the #39 GoPro / GoProCamera.com Volkswagen Jetta TDI, crossed the line in fourth place. The fast Lime Rock Park circuit threw drivers many challenges but Kenney came into the weekend relaxed and focused, fresh off a Top-10 finish at Portland International Raceway.
"Finishing the in the Top-5 today feels great, especially in a field as competitive as the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. My results this season have been consistent and I look forward to maintaining the momentum in the final swing of the season. I have to thank Volkswagen and GoPro for their support this year and I'm excited to return the favor by posting competitive results." Commented Caleb Kenney.
Kenney, and the rest of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup drivers, started out the weekend with a 30 minute free practice session. The practice session on the short Lime Rock Circuit handed drivers the first challenge of the weekend with many competitors suffering from blistered tires. Luckily, Kenney didn't suffer from tire woes and was able to extract valuable information from the on-board data and analysis systems.
A 30 minute qualifying session preceded free practice, but was cut short due to the extreme amount of tire wear seen by most competitors. Kenney topped the leader board in the opening laps of qualifying but came in early to conserve tires. With other drivers running laps, Kenney would slip to sixth at the end of the shorted qualifying session.
On raceday, Kenney took advantage of his Top-10 starting position and raced his way into the Top-5 midway through the 30 minute sprint race. After two full course cautions and 25 laps, Kenney ultimately finished fourth. With a Top-5 Finish, Kenney still sits sixth in the overall drivers championship but has tightened the gap to points leader David Jurca.
