KINGSPORT, TN - Teenage Danny O'Quinn Jr. of Coeburn, VA., collected his first American Racing Association (ARA) Late Model Stock Car All-Stars race Friday night at Galaxy Kingsport Speedway in impressive fashion.
O'Quinn, 16, started on the pole and led wire-to-wire to score a convincing victory over Robbie Ferguson of Jonesboro, TN. Mark Ketron was third, Keith Stiltner fourth and Butch Jarvis fifth. Of the top five finishers, only O'Quinn and Stiltner are regulars on the ARA late model stock car circuit, and both of them have extensive experience running at the one-third mile concrete track.
Scott Kilby retained his series points lead with a sixth-place finish. Seventh went to 14-year-old Stephen Leicht of Asheville, NC.
O'Quinn was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 15.423 seconds in his #01 O'Quinn Trailer Sales Chevrolet Monte Carlo. He led all 125 laps despite four cautions. There were no major incidents reported in the tour's first appearance at the track.
The next race on the ARA All-Stars Tour is Saturday night, July 21, at Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway.
