Agnew scores first win of the season

XENIA, OH -- Although it took an extra day, it was worth the wait for Jeff Agnew. Agnew, who had collected three consecutive top-five finishes in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division, finally brought his NGA Hooters Pro Golf Tour Chevrolet to victory lane at Kil-Kare Speedway.

Agnew passed Brian Ross on lap 224 and never looked back as the former Series champion scored his first victory of the season. Hal Goodson continued his impressive string of finishes with a strong second-place showing with Jay Fogleman, Ross and Derrick Kelley completing the top-five.

"I have to thank the guys on the crew for this win," said Agnew. "We really didn't know what to expect racing this morning after the rain last night but the guys gave me a great car and we were able to get the win. It feels great."

The race was red flagged Friday night on lap 86 when severe thunderstorms moved into the area forcing USAR officials to postpone the finish until Saturday morning. The race was resumed the next morning at 9:45 a.m. as showers were once again threatening the area.

Brian Ross won the Advance Auto Parts Pole Award and quickly jumped to the lead were he remained until he got loose going into turn two on lap 224 to give Agnew the lane he needed for the pass.

"We had a something not right on that second set of tires or something," said Ross. "We had a good car and led a lot of laps. We had a chance but that's the way it goes sometimes. We will just get ready and go down to New River Valley Speedway in a couple of weeks and try to get one then."

The win by Agnew also vaulted him into the points lead in the Northern Division by 12 points over Ross (975-963). Eric Corbett, who finished in sixth position in the race, entered the weekend in the lead but fell to third with 950 points.

Gerald Davis scored his second consecutive Miller Lite Rookie of the Race award with his ninth-place finish and veteran Glenn Gault won the Hard Charger Award by advancing from 28th to 8th during the race. Ross also added the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award by leading at lap 125 in addition to his pole award.

The USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division returns to action on July 19th when New River Valley Speedway hosts the Kroger 250 presented by Pepsi. For more information please visit the official website of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series at www.usarprocup.com.
