April 23, 2002 - Sydney's sole V8 Supercar team in the 2002 V8 Supercar Series welcomes their first of two home races of the season at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway this weekend.

28 year old Cameron McConville, who drove to an outstanding 4th place finish in the second Phillip Island race in the Lansvale Racing Team VX Commodore, has just returned from a gruelling weekend in the Australian Olympic Distance Triathlon Championships held in Mooloolaba on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

One of the fittest athletes in V8 Supercar racing, McConville finished 201st out of 870 starters in this gigantic event and 31st out of 110 competitors in his age group. He completed the 1.5km swim, 40km ride and 10km run in 2 hours and 15 minutes - representing a personal best for the Lansvale Racing Team V8 Supercar driver.

This impressive result followed the Victorian driver's 11th place age group finish in the Victorian Gatorade Triathlon Series during 2001/2.

Cameron McConville - "I am very pleased with how it all went. Competing in such a major national athletic event was a great experience as well as excellent training between races, I did a personal best and plan to be back next year to run even harder.

"We have a lot of experience at Eastern Creek and we will have to put that to good use during pre-qualifying. It will be a high pressure session with some strong teams, so we will just have to get the job done on Friday and concentrate on finding an even better balance for Saturday's qualifying session," He said.

The Lansvale Racing Team, owned by Sydney drivers Trevor Ashby and Steve Reed, earned their first points of the 2002 season at Phillip Island and displayed a one of their highest levels of performance yet.

"We got the balance and pit strategy right at Phillip Island but more importantly our car speed was exceptional. If we can emulate this at Eastern Creek - get ready for a surprise or two from Cameron. He is hungry for better results and so are we," Steve Reed said.

Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway will host three exciting V8 Supercar races this weekend, one 20 minute race on Saturday and two 150km races on Sunday.
