Courtney fastest at Queensland V8 Supercar test
JELD-WEN Motorsport's James Courtney was fastest at the official V8 Supercar test at Queensland Raceway at Ipswich this week.
Courtney was the quickest of 13 cars with a 1:10.59 second lap of the 3.12km circuit. The JELD-WEN Motorsport driver completed only two laps on new tyres before rain fell on the Willowbank track late in the day.
Team-mate Shane van Gisbergen was ninth fastest in the SP Tools Racing Falcon, missing his chance to post a time on new rubber due to the rain.
Stone Brothers Racing completed a full test day with both V8 Supercar Championship cars, also testing its Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series entry with Jonathon Webb at the wheel.
All SBR drivers used the test day to blow out the off-season cobwebs in preparation for the first race of the year, the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, in just over a week's time.
James Courtney, car #4, JELD-WEN Motorsport
"Today was a really productive day.
"All the changes we made were very clear. We're very happy with what we have learnt and we are really looking forward to Clipsal.
"The track conditions at Queensland Raceway have improved 100% from when we were here with the SBR ride car last week. The lime they put on the circuit has done the job.
"My engineers will look at the data and hopefully sneak a little bit more out of the JELD-WEN Falcon but we are really happy with where we are heading into next weekend."
Shane van Gisbergen, car #9, SP Tools Racing "We spent a bit of time bedding in brakes and diffs this morning.
"I tried some new things with my driving style, went from left foot to right foot braking with the new gear box to see if we could pick up some time.
"The SP Tools team made small changes right throughout the day. We really started to get into it later in the afternoon and we were just about to throw new tyres at it when the weather packed it in.
"Even though the time today didn't reflect it, everything went well. With new tyres I'm sure we would have picked up time and it was a good chance for me to settle in with the car and the team."
