The rumour mill went into overdrive in the last few days after a British tabloid reported that Jenson Button had been talks with Jaguar Racing. It has recently been speculated that Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine is to be replaced next year after Renault test driver Fernando Alonso tested for the team and Minardi's Mark Webber is scheduled to test for them in the near future.
Irvine played down the rumours: "I've heard that Jenson's getting pushed out of Benetton (Renault)," he said. "So he needs to go somewhere. I'm sure he'll be up and down the pitlane trying to get in anywhere he can. It makes sense."
Button said recently that he would like to stay with Renault and has been publicly lauded by boss Flavio Briatore -- a change of opinion after his equally public scathing comments about the British driver last season. Button confirmed he has been talking to other teams but not Jaguar in particular."We've been talking to teams about next year, it's nothing too serious at the moment, but we have been talking to other teams," he said. "It's not just the decision of one person. There are lots of different options but I think I probably know more about what's going to happen with teams next year than most of you do."
"Eddie Irvine said that?" He commented when asked about the Irishman's remark. "He knows everything about this team obviously. Where's he going to be next year? There's no decision on what's happening next year. I think it (Renault) is a good team to be with. I have to explore the options really. Anyone would do that."
