New Shell fuel to bring Ferrari extra horsepower in Germany
Fuel
*Ferrari will use a new Shell fuel at Hockenheim this weekend
*The new fuel, Shell V-Power ULG59 is an evolution of the
previous fuel, ULG58
*The new fuel will bring the engine several extra horsepower although
the exact gain is classified
*The new fuel has maintained the low density of its predecessor,
offering Ferrari a crucial strategic advantage when planning race strategy.
In Silverstone, Michael Schumacher kept pace with the leading cars despite
having around four laps more fuel on board. This was thanks in part to the
fuel economy and the low mass of the Shell fuel
*The fuel is also contributing a to a small increase in fuel economy
density
Technical recap
A fuel's weight is conditioned by its density. Given than one litre of pure water weighs one kilogramme, regulations imposed but the FIA state that a fuel's density may only be between 0.720 and 0.775 kgs/litre. By keeping the power output and fuel efficiency high and by maintaining the low density of the fuel, Shell has been able to offer to Ferrari a relative weight-saving this year
Lubricant
*Shell and Ferrari will continue to use Shell Helix SL785 in
Hockenheim as, once again, it will be well suited to the circuit's
characteristics
*Should the ambient temperatures be exceptionally high, as can often
be the case in Germany, Ferrari will have Shell Helix F1SL0848 on stand by.
Shell Helix F1SL0848 was last used in France because of the high temperature
on race day
