Whiting was on the receiving end of abuse from Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel – who told him to ‘**** off' after not immediately ordering Max Verstappen to move over for cutting the track after running wide at Turn 1.
Vettel’s outburst was investigated by the FIA, with motor racing’s governing body deciding in the end that since the German had apologised in person to Whiting, and subsequently written a follow-up letter plus another to FIA president Jean Todt, he would escape sanction.
In a note sent out on Wednesday, the FIA announced that the key figures involved in the Mexico controversy – Vettel and Verstappen – were part of the panel that will speak on Thursday
It also added that Whiting was due to make an appearance so he could address any lingering issues.
“FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting will attend the latter part of the Thursday Drivers’ Press Conference, alongside the nominated drivers, to talk about the 2016 FIA Formula One Mexican Grand Prix,” said the note.
“On this occasion he will be present to address this topic ONLY in order to avoid questions are not in line with the facts in discussion.”
The other drivers attending the press conference are Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Daniel Ricciardo, and Nico Rosberg. The event starts at 11am local time.
