VALENCIA TEST - 2-4 April 2002

Summary:

Ahead of the start to the European season, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team concluded a three day test at the Valencia Circuit in Spain today which was conducted by Juan Pablo Montoya together with test team drivers Marc Gene and Antonio Pizzonia, using the third FW24 chassis and an interim FW23C.

In spite of some adverse weather conditions, notably heavy rain in the middle of the week, the test team worked through an extensive programme including detailed tyre work with Michelin, engine mapping and brake testing.

Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1):

"Our main priority this week was concentrating on testing different cases and compounds for Michelin, while simultaneously undertaking useful endurance running both today and yesterday. We have also worked quite hard on brake testing in preparation for Imola."

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director):

"We have had a good three day test, again covering several race distances without any major problems. On the engine side, we have focused on further adaptations to the traction control and were simulating race starts in order to optimise the launch control systems. The main focus of the Valencia test was set-up work on the car and tyre testing."
