Formula One returns to Europe this weekend for the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher still to grace a podium and three different winners celebrating the opening three races! With the form book being well and truly re-written, Britain's Justin Wilson is enjoying a highly impressive start to his Grand Prix career, piloting his Minardi-Cosworth into the top eight at the start of the first two races and shadowing former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve in Brazil a fortnight ago!
Justin is relishing the prospect of racing in Europe and returning to the circuits where he experienced unprecedented success during his 2001 record-breaking International F3000 Championship year.
"I'm looking forward to being back at Imola," stated Wilson. "We enjoyed a productive session there when we shook down the PS03 at the end of February prior to the Australian Grand Prix. We've made improvements to the car since then and continue to make headway each time we race. I know the circuit fairly well from my F3000 races there."
"Since Brazil I've been busy in the gym and with Imola our second anti-clockwise race in a row; I'm concentrating on further strengthening my neck muscles while continuing to improve my overall fitness level. I'm hoping Sunday will be a good race for the team as the circuit is just down the road from the Minardi factory at Faenza and I know everyone's looking forward to being there."
Justin first raced at Imola in 1999 in the F3000 support race the day before the San Marino Grand Prix. In a field that contained several European F3 Champions, Wilson, graduating to the series as his prize for winning the 1998 Formula Palmer Audi Championship, earmarked himself as a future champion as he raced his Lola to sixth place and one championship point on his series debut. He went on that season to be one of only seven drivers, from a field of 42, who qualified for all ten races, a remarkable achievement with the majority of circuits new to Wilson.
