Boschung, 19, makes the switch from GP3, where he had been racing since 2015, having previously taken race wins in Formula BMW Talent Cup and ADAC Formel Masters.

The Swiss driver was 11th in his rookie GP3 season with Jenzer, before joining Koiranen and taking his maiden win in soaking wet conditions in the Red Bull Ring sprint last year - only to lose his seat due to budget issues before the end of the campaign.

However, he has now become Campos Racing's first signing for the 2017 edition of F2 - and the first driver to be announced in the series since it was renamed from GP2.

"It is amazing to step up to the FIA Formula 2 championship, driving for Campos Racing, which has a huge experience in motorsport working with top drivers," Boschung said.

"I want to learn as much as possible. My goal is to achieve points finishes in the first half of the season and then, building off the positive momentum, capture my first podium with more experience in the car."

Having won the teams' championship back in 2008, Campos returned to what is now the F2 series three years ago and since won races with Arthur Pic, Rio Haryanto and Mitch Evans.

Both drivers from its 2016 line-up have already found other seats for the season, with Evans racing for Jaguar in Formula E and Sean Gelael continuing in F2 with Arden.

"I am delighted to have Ralph with our team in the FIA Formula 2 championship," said team owner Adrian Campos.

"It's amazing to have a rookie driver at Campos Racing, who was a race winner and podium contender in the highly-contested GP3 Series. We are excited to help him make this transition. We have a promising season ahead."
